The Green Annual Reports Initiative for Africa ('GARI')
AfricanFinancials in association with iPaper launches Green Annual Reports Initiative (”GARI”). GARI is an initiative to promote the publication of annual reports online for statutory reporting purposes.
African Financials recognises the importance of investors receiving adequate financial
information regarding listed companies. "We believe that the ability to review a company’s
financial statements electronically provides a cost-effective and ‘eco-friendly’ means for
companies to provide financial information, and provides a benefit, furthermore, to shareholders
and the community. The ability to search through such documents for relevant information also
makes electronic communication timely and efficient for shareholders. Online publication of
annual reports will provide significant efficiencies to all reporting companies, including
cost reductions that will be in the best interests of shareholders. It will also improve the
shareholder experience of being burdened with unwanted amounts of hard copy corporate information
in the mail, not to mention the massive benefit to the environment."
With no bulky downloads from the Internet necessary, interactive online reports (“IORs”)
provide shareholders and stakeholders with highly functional text viewing capabilities whilst
retaining companies’ printed annual concept and appearance. "It looks and feels like a real
annual report but with the electronic benefits of bookmarks and text search."
